  • The U.S. unemployment rate fell from 7.0%  to 6.7% in December, but there were only an additional 74,000 jobs created. The reduction in the unemployment rate largely came from people dropping out of the labor force (who are not counted in the unemployment rate). K.C. Star
  • Congress considers continuing the extended unemployment benefits program for people unemployed longer than 26 weeks. This program came to an end on December 31, 2013. It was originally enacted in 2008. The Washington Post
